JDS Energy and Mining Inc. is an Engineering, Construction, and Project Management company with resource development projects throughout the world. As a result of our increased growth and expansion we are currently seeking an experienced Mining Process Equipment Specialist, Engineering Technologist to join our team.

The Mining Process Equipment Specialist, Engineering Technologist will provide design review and analysis along with the procurement of required equipment and materials for project related activities. This position requires a senior individual capable of performing tasks with little supervision, setting and adhering to deadlines and responsibilities, have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the mine development process, as well as the ability to multi task, adhere to budgets, deadlines  and address challenges that a developing a project will present.

The principal duties of the role include:

• Process and mechanical design, from preliminary design and bidding, through detailed design during project execution 
• Process design for assigned bids & projects by establishing design criteria and implementing the preparation of specifications, design computations, drawings, models, and bills of material in accordance with basic project requirements 
• Procurement of equipment and materials through a competitive bid and quote process
• Organize activities with other departments and clients 

The applicant must have and demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and/or abilities:

• 5+ years of experience in the role of Engineering Technologist 
• A technical degree or diploma from a recognized mining technician / technologist program
• Must have experience in P&ID development and equipment sizing 
• Superior communication skills, both written and verbal 
• Detail oriented, practical mindset 
• Related mining experience, preference will be given to candidates with relevant underground mining project / operations experience
• Hands on sizing and selecting equipment and detailed design engineering experience 
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD. 
• Knowledge of a mine design software package such as Vulcan, GEMCOM or a similar package would be beneficial.
• Experience with GIS systems is preferred. 
• Fundamentals of project management and engineering tools & systems
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently within a project team environment.
• Ability to work closely and cooperatively with client groups.

JDS Energy and Mining Inc. is an Engineering, Construction, and Project Management company with projects throughout the world. As a result of our increased growth and expansion we are currently seeking a Construction Manager to join our team.

The Construction Manager will provide leadership and direction for on-site project related activities performing tasks with little supervision, setting and adhering to deadlines and responsibilities, have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the mining business, as well as risks/opportunities that developing a project will present.

Role:

• Charting out the project objectives and plans, setting performance requirements, and selecting project participants.
• Bringing about optimum utilization of resources including: labour, materials and equipment, and ensuring their procurement at most cost-effective terms.
• Implementation of various operations through proper coordination.
• Managing day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope.
• Effectively applying JDS methodology and enforcing project standards.
• Minimizing JDS exposure and risk on projects.
• Development of effective communications and mechanisms for resolving conflicts among the various participants.
• Ensuring project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the construction project from start to finish.
• Perform a key role in project planning, budgeting, and identification of resources needed.
• Create the teams, develop the objectives/goals of each and assign individual responsibilities.
• Project financial functions including managing the budget, tracking team expenses and minimizing financial exposure and risk in the project
• Ensure that construction activities move according to pre-determined schedule.
• Devise the project work plans and make revisions as and when need arises.
• Communicate effectively with the contractors responsible for completing various phases of the project.
• Co-ordinate the efforts of all parties involved in the project, including architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, sub-contractors and labourers.
• Monitor the progress of the construction activities on a regular basis and hold regular status meetings with all the sub-teams.
• Maintain strict adherence to the budgetary guidelines, quality and safety standards.
• Periodic inspection of construction sites.
• Ensure project documents are complete.
• Identify the elements of project design and construction likely to give rise to disputes and claims.
• Serve as a key link with the clients and review the deliverable prepared by the team before passing onto client.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• Minimum 10 years of experience in construction projects.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Thorough understanding of resource development projects and methodology.
• Thorough knowledge of legal issues and safety standards is essential.
• Thorough adherence to Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) requirements.
• Management of external and internal Risks associated to project development and execution.

The Sr. Construction & Mining Safety Coordinator will provide leadership and direction for on-site health, safety and environment project related activities performing tasks with little supervision, setting and adhering to deadlines and responsibilities, have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the applicable regulations and requirements, as well as risks/opportunities that a developing a project will present.

The principal duties of the role include:

• Interfacing with on-site JDS and Client project management personnel on projects to ensure adequate HSE implementation is being conducted including Corrective Action follow up
• Ensuring that project Safety Programs adequately meet local, national or international safety standards using your thorough knowledge of Canadian, U.S. and International Regulations, Industrial Best Practices and theoretical Safety knowledge in Heavy Industrial, Construction and Mining industries
• Tracking of and assisting with follow up on safety related action-log items arising from meetings, incident reviews, or other input systems
• Communicating with various governmental and non-governmental safety organizations on behalf of the company to ensure required certifications and licenses are maintained
• Complete on-site safety inspections regularly at various, smaller work sites with follow up management
• Implement and organize new safety initiatives as they are rolled out from Senior Management of JDS

The applicant must have and demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and/or abilities:

• 10+ years of experience as a Safety Professional and having managed at least a few large industrial work sites
• Be computer literate and proficient with MS Office.
• Be able to develop, implement and modify complete Safety Programs and systems including Training systems
• Be a capable self-starter and have the ability and knowledge to work with little immediate supervision requirements
• Be available to travel for longer and shorter terms on an irregular basis
• Be able to multi-task related to overseeing several projects at once
• Have good public speaking & presentation skills
• Have exceptional organizational skills
• Have a positive attitude and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• ISO 18001, CSA Z1000 or ANSI Z10 knowledge is an asset
