TMX Tunnel

In 2022, JDS was awarded a section of 5 m x 5 m tunnel development on Spread 5B of the TMEP, 10 km West of Hope, BC. The project involves drill and blast activities in close proximity to major federal and provincial infrastructure with extremely tight tolerances for specifications and peak particle velocity. The scope includes mobilization, material supply, 161m of development and installation of a final ground support requirements. In addition to this scope, JDS has engaged the TMEP’s directional drill contractors to supply a unique service in Casing Advance Obstruction Removal (CAOR) using traditional drill and blast techniques. This allowed the drilling to re-commence, avoiding major project delays and expenses. The Mountain 2 scope was fully completed in October 2023 with additional close-out scopes such as concrete bulkheads and pipe supports being wrapped up to close out the project.

O’Rourke Winery

JDS excavated underground wine storage tunnels and tasting room for Sureway Construction Group at O'Rourke Winery in Lake Country, BC. The project included 270 linear meters of 5m x 5m development, 50m of 2m x 3m mandrift and drop raise, and three primary portals, with varying tunnel profiles up to 8m wide depending on end use and depth. JDS prioritized quality, aesthetics, and long-term stability over advance rate, performing all underground project management, engineering, mining, and ground support on a fixed cost-per-meter basis while maintaining flexibility as design concepts evolved.
