In 2023 JDS Supported the Regional District Okanagan Similkameen in rehabilitating the Adra Tunnel located on the historic Kettle Valley Railway Trail. Broadway Tunnel

Construction & Development (Completed – 2025)

In 2022, JDS was engaged by the Broadway Subway Project Corporation to support with the excavation of a conventionally mined tunnel on the inbound line TBM take-off point at the Great Northern Way Station. Once engaged, JDS completed all regulatory submissions including ventilation plans and successfully mobilized and completed the tunnel ahead of schedule with no major incidents. Based on the successful completion of the initial scope, , JDS has embarked on completing two (2) additional underpass tunnels, two 2 SEM large diameter tunnels, one vent shaft and 13  cross passages for the project while supporting several other station developments on an as needed basis.

TMX Tunnel

In 2022, JDS was awarded a section of 5 m x 5 m tunnel development on Spread 5B of the TMEP, 10 km West of Hope, BC. The project involves drill and blast activities in close proximity to major federal and provincial infrastructure with extremely tight tolerances for specifications and peak particle velocity. The scope includes mobilization, material supply, 161m of development and installation of a final ground support requirements. In addition to this scope, JDS has engaged the TMEP’s directional drill contractors to supply a unique service in Casing Advance Obstruction Removal (CAOR) using traditional drill and blast techniques. This allowed the drilling to re-commence, avoiding major project delays and expenses. The Mountain 2 scope was fully completed in October 2023 with additional close-out scopes such as concrete bulkheads and pipe supports being wrapped up to close out the project.

Silvertip Mine

JDS Silver purchased Silvertip from Silvercorp in 2013, completed a PEA for a 1,000 tpd Pb-Zn-Ag operation (1.4M tonnes at 365 g/t Ag, 7.2% Pb, 8.7% Zn), and constructed the mine in 10 months from December 2015. JDS purchased and refurbished the Sa Dena Hes processing plant augmented with Diavik's paste plant, transporting 190 equipment loads to site. Infrastructure included 120' bridge, 26km access road, 150-bed camp, 2,000 m² mill building, 7.5MW LNG powerplant (plus 5MW diesel backup), 150 m³/hr water treatment, dry stack tailings, and event pond. JDS provided underground startup support including shotcreting, CRF, services, and dewatering. Completed safely with 256,043 hours and zero LTIs, on budget and on schedule.

O’Rourke Winery

JDS excavated underground wine storage tunnels and tasting room for Sureway Construction Group at O'Rourke Winery in Lake Country, BC. The project included 270 linear meters of 5m x 5m development, 50m of 2m x 3m mandrift and drop raise, and three primary portals, with varying tunnel profiles up to 8m wide depending on end use and depth. JDS prioritized quality, aesthetics, and long-term stability over advance rate, performing all underground project management, engineering, mining, and ground support on a fixed cost-per-meter basis while maintaining flexibility as design concepts evolved.

Cariboo Gold

JDS mobilized a shotcrete crew and equipment on 5 days' notice to Osisko Development's QR Mine in Wells, BC to rehabilitate the main ramp and priority headings where sloughing had occurred in faulted siltstone. JDS provided a robotic Aliva 302 sprayboom with Aliva 252 and pre-dampener, deployed 24/7 miners integrated with Owner's staff and contractors, completed two ventilation door sprays, and assisted with services and blasting. The contract duration was three months.

Bralorne Mine

JDS was engaged by Talisker Resources in 2020 to optimize and develop a fit-for-purpose mine plan for the historic Bralorne Mine. Following mine planning, JDS conducted geotechnical review and rehabilitation of the 800L drift, and now provides ongoing Shift Boss support for investor and client tours. Additional services include timber set rehabilitation and installation, mine dewatering, 3km track drift rehabilitation with ballast and rail maintenance, geotechnical reviews, channel sampling and ore model validation, and 300 tpd restart economic modeling and mine planning.

Red Mountain

JDS provided procurement, engineering, and labor to reopen IDM Mining's Red Mountain exploration decline, located between Cambria Ice Fields and Bromley Glacier in BC. The mine had been flooded for 20 years. JDS utilized refurbished equipment and infrastructure to dewater and rehabilitate 2,000m of 4.5m x 4.5m decline, established all underground infrastructure, removed mine debris, and serviced two underground diamond drill rigs during the dewatering program.

Since November 2021, JDS has provided full-service contract mining for Imperial Metals' Mt. Polley Mine in BC. Technical services (average 5 staff) include short and medium-range mine planning, drill and blast design, mine survey, production tracking, waste rock design, and geotechnical support. JDS provides all front-line supervisors and workers (currently 70 employees) for in-pit operations using Mt. Polley equipment, including all management, pit shifters, health and safety oversight, and training programs. JDS completed a Feasibility Study for Argonaut Gold's Magino property, building on the 2016 Revised PFS. Key improvements included increasing processing capacity from 12,500 tpd to 30,000 tpd, significantly expanding reserves through a land swap with Richmont Mines and additional drilling, optimizing pit slopes to reduce strip ratio, and front-loading higher-grade material processing while stockpiling lower-grade ore. Aranzazu Mine

JDS expanded Aranzazu's process plant production from 1,200 to 2,600 tpd in Mexico. The scope included installation of three-stage crushing, extensive conveyor systems, three refurbished ball mills, regrind mill and circuit, refurbishment of four flotation banks and eight scavenger cells, lime slaker system, tailings thickener, and complete electrical, control, and piping systems. Additional infrastructure included tailings dam, concrete plant, administration building, and mine dry. JDS also completed underground mine planning and operations review. The project was delivered on budget and on schedule using managed local contractors.

Campo Morado Mine

JDS led design and construction of the Naranjo Alto tailings facility for Nyrstar with a $32M budget, one-year timeline, and 900,000 m³ earthworks including HDPE liner installation. JDS procured and mentored local contractors to achieve budget and schedule targets. Following a project design review, JDS managed staging optimization that reduced initial capital costs to $6.2M by lowering initial elevation and limiting liner to the downstream face only. JDS also managed an expansion raise lift to the existing tailings pond. All work was completed under budget and on schedule.

Barkerville Gold Mine

JDS provided on-site construction management and supervision for the Cow Mountain Portal development, enabling access to a 10,000-tonne bulk sample at Barkerville Gold Mines' Cariboo Gold Project. Work included a 300m non-contact diversion ditch, 6m x 6m x 25m Arch Lock Tunnel with retaining wall, 4,000m² pad construction, and significant earthworks totaling 30,000m³. JDS also managed mobilization of BGM's Sandvik MT-720 Road Header between portals, designed and constructed a 2,200m insulated and heat-traced dewatering pipeline, and provided ongoing operational support for road header operations.

Mercedes Mine

JDS designed and installed 240 meters of ground support and manway systems within a previously excavated raisebore at Yamana's Jacobina Mine in Brazil. Due to the raise bore excavation method, JDS employed innovative top-down construction using modified suspended staging.
