SERVICES
Underground Mine Services
JDS delivers fit-for-purpose design and execution, providing underground services around the globe. From Canada and the U.S. to Mexico, Guatemala, Guyana, and Botswana…every project focuses on value, safety, and everlasting results.
Development Mining
Since 2007, JDS has filled a critical gap in mine contracting, delivering portal collaring and linear development across multiple countries as a result. We work with drill and blast, or use mechanical excavation methods like SEM and roadheaders. And we do it right, fast, and without delays.
Vertical Alimak Excavation
JDS executes Alimak raises end-to-end, from excavation to service and infrastructure installation, ensuring every single project meets practical, operational needs.
Production Mining
We proudly keep mills fed. We augment production or provide full underground contract mining solutions with efficiency and reliability. Time and time again.
Engineering
Our field-driven engineering integrates seamlessly with mining teams to deliver practical, efficient solutions that drive results.
Training
JDS builds capability. From internal programs to mine rescue services, we train teams to work safely, confidently, and as effectively as can be.
Underground Construction
JDS tackles underground construction and rehabilitation with precision – ore passes, grizzlies, sumps, crushers, conveyors, and more…done right, and built to last.
Underground Rehabilitation
We support rehabilitation for historic workings, thereby enabling safe access for both operational and closure needs.
JDS Silver purchased Silvertip from Silvercorp in 2013, completed a PEA for a 1,000 tpd Pb-Zn-Ag operation (1.4M tonnes at 365 g/t Ag, 7.2% Pb, 8.7% Zn), and constructed the mine in 10 months from December 2015. JDS purchased and refurbished the Sa Dena Hes processing plant augmented with Diavik's paste plant, transporting 190 equipment loads to site. Infrastructure included 120' bridge, 26km access road, 150-bed camp, 2,000 m² mill building, 7.5MW LNG powerplant (plus 5MW diesel backup), 150 m³/hr water treatment, dry stack tailings, and event pond. JDS provided underground startup support including shotcreting, CRF, services, and dewatering. Completed safely with 256,043 hours and zero LTIs, on budget and on schedule.
$50M Northern British Columbia
JDS mobilized a shotcrete crew and equipment on 5 days' notice to Osisko Development's QR Mine in Wells, BC to rehabilitate the main ramp and priority headings where sloughing had occurred in faulted siltstone. JDS provided a robotic Aliva 302 sprayboom with Aliva 252 and pre-dampener, deployed 24/7 miners integrated with Owner's staff and contractors, completed two ventilation door sprays, and assisted with services and blasting. The contract duration was three months.
Wells, BC
JDS was engaged by Talisker Resources in 2020 to optimize and develop a fit-for-purpose mine plan for the historic Bralorne Mine. Following mine planning, JDS conducted geotechnical review and rehabilitation of the 800L drift, and now provides ongoing Shift Boss support for investor and client tours. Additional services include timber set rehabilitation and installation, mine dewatering, 3km track drift rehabilitation with ballast and rail maintenance, geotechnical reviews, channel sampling and ore model validation, and 300 tpd restart economic modeling and mine planning.
Bralorne, BC
JDS designed and installed a complete conveyor system at Minera Maria Luisa including head pulley with motors, transmission, pulley system, electrical controls and safety devices; 42" bucketed conveyor belt on a 30-degree, 58% incline ramp; civil works and concrete foundations for conveyor structures; discharge hopper and Häggloader feeder equipment; complete electrical installation with control panels and emergency systems; commissioning; and personnel training for final project handover.
Guerrero State, Mexico
JDS provided procurement, engineering, and labor to reopen IDM Mining's Red Mountain exploration decline, located between Cambria Ice Fields and Bromley Glacier in BC. The mine had been flooded for 20 years. JDS utilized refurbished equipment and infrastructure to dewater and rehabilitate 2,000m of 4.5m x 4.5m decline, established all underground infrastructure, removed mine debris, and serviced two underground diamond drill rigs during the dewatering program.

Since November 2021, JDS has provided full-service contract mining for Imperial Metals' Mt. Polley Mine in BC. Technical services (average 5 staff) include short and medium-range mine planning, drill and blast design, mine survey, production tracking, waste rock design, and geotechnical support. JDS provides all front-line supervisors and workers (currently 70 employees) for in-pit operations using Mt. Polley equipment, including all management, pit shifters, health and safety oversight, and training programs. JDS is supplementing the Owner's fleet with equipment including two mobilized DTH drills.

JDS provided comprehensive underground mining services including construction activities (grizzly installation, ore pass rehabilitation, concrete plugs, dewatering stations, weirs, brattices, rollup doors, mine rehabilitation, drawbell construction, steel ventilation and fire doors, surge tanks, raise bore setups and covering), development activities (mechanized ramp and lateral development support, cable bolting, service installation, conventional mining of cutouts and safety bays), production activities (haulage), and Technical Support (survey, ground Support and Construction QA/QC, mine planning, project coordination and support).
$20M+ Kamloops, BC
JDS provided client representatives for construction management and underground mining services for approximately 2.3km of exploration drift development at Maya Gold & Silver's Zgounder Mine in Morocco. The 4.5m x 4.5m access tunnel enables lower-level drilling to expand proven resources. JDS deployed a combination of expatriate and local miners using mechanized mining and conventional jackleg bolting methods, engaged the local community for mining support and equipment supply where feasible, and provided required underground equipment for project completion.
Guerrero State, Mexico
JDS expanded Aranzazu's process plant production from 1,200 to 2,600 tpd in Mexico. The scope included installation of three-stage crushing, extensive conveyor systems, three refurbished ball mills, regrind mill and circuit, refurbishment of four flotation banks and eight scavenger cells, lime slaker system, tailings thickener, and complete electrical, control, and piping systems. Additional infrastructure included tailings dam, concrete plant, administration building, and mine dry. JDS also completed underground mine planning and operations review. The project was delivered on budget and on schedule using managed local contractors.
$36M Zacatecas, Mexico
JDS led design and construction of the Naranjo Alto tailings facility for Nyrstar with a $32M budget, one-year timeline, and 900,000 m³ earthworks including HDPE liner installation. JDS procured and mentored local contractors to achieve budget and schedule targets. Following a project design review, JDS managed staging optimization that reduced initial capital costs to $6.2M by lowering initial elevation and limiting liner to the downstream face only. JDS also managed an expansion raise lift to the existing tailings pond. All work was completed under budget and on schedule.
$20M Guerrero, Mexico
JDS provided on-site construction management and supervision for the Cow Mountain Portal development, enabling access to a 10,000-tonne bulk sample at Barkerville Gold Mines' Cariboo Gold Project. Work included a 300m non-contact diversion ditch, 6m x 6m x 25m Arch Lock Tunnel with retaining wall, 4,000m² pad construction, and significant earthworks totaling 30,000m³. JDS also managed mobilization of BGM's Sandvik MT-720 Road Header between portals, designed and constructed a 2,200m insulated and heat-traced dewatering pipeline, and provided ongoing operational support for road header operations.
Wells, BC
JDS designed and installed 240 meters of ground support and manway systems within a previously excavated raisebore at Yamana's Jacobina Mine in Brazil. Due to the raise bore excavation method, JDS employed innovative top-down construction using modified suspended staging. JDS led the construction management team and supplied trained personnel to complete the ground support and ladder installation safely, on time, and on budget with zero safety incidents.
